Flea Market

When I was thirteen me and my dad would go to the Flea Market on Terminal ave once a month.  We would drive along First ave through industrial wasteland, and after a series of scarce, strangely timed lights we'd get to the red rectangular box that housed the flea market.  Once inside, my dad and I would hang out together until we realized, yet again, that our interests were pretty different from one another.  He'd check out old Simon and Garfunkel vinyl records, smiling goofily at the two she-males on the cover, and then have boring nostalgic chat with the old dude selling.  I would drift off and paw through tins of antique keys, look for Run DMC tapes, and try and discover new authors like Dean Koontz, who was so much cooler than that old hack Stephen King.   Mum never came.  Flea market tables full of lots of things made her feel claustrophobic, like the clutter was dizzying.  But that was ok with us.  It gave me and dad a chance to bond over our love of curiosities and that was pretty cool.

Hello

Hello,

Welcome to my new blog.  Feline Button is a business I started in September of 2010.  I make 1" pinback buttons with retro images.  I sit down with old zines and cut out stuff that triggers a feeling in me that is evocative of something passed.  After selecting the vintage design, I glue the image on a circle template, and pump each one out by hand with my reliable machine press.  Then I attach a metal backing to each piece, and there it is, a button.
